The President Office

  • June 2: President Stephen Lee was invited to preach at the 40th Anniversary Joint Thanksgiving Service of the Wo Lok Baptist Church.
  • June 17-19: Vice President Luke Cheung served as a member of the Asia Theological Association accreditation team to visit Chung Yuan Christian University in Taipei.
  • June 21: Dr Luke Cheung published The Epistle of Titus: A Healthy Life Grounded upon Grace in the Ming Dao Bible Study Series, and conducted a seminar on the same book organized by the Ming Dao Press.
  • July 31: Dr Luke Cheung stepped down as Vice President but continues his role of a full faculty member as Wilson Chow Professor (Biblical Studies). We are deeply grateful to him for his leadership in the past six years.
  • August 1: Assistant Professor (Practical Studies) Rev Dr Michael Chu was appointed Vice President for 2019-2022.
  • August 23-25: Dr Stephen Lee led the Ministry Partner Retreat hosted by CGST US Board in Colorado Springs, attended by 51 participants of more than ten cities from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Mr Daniel Law, Director of Development, also attended, and brought along a new series of 3-minute video clips featuring various interviews with the first six of our 22 faculty members.

 

Faculty Engagements

  • April: Retired Associate Professor (Counseling Studies) Mrs Bess Choi and Assistant Professor (Practical Studies) Dr Pan Yi-Jung’s monograph, Integral Pre-marital Counseling, was jointly published by CGST and Nanjing Union Theological Seminary.
  • June: Marketplace Alumni led The Journey of Faith Walker in the Marketplace module 1 at Church of God Hin Keng Church and The Church of Living Grace, during which Dean and Abundant Grace Associate Professor (Theological Studies) Dr Jean Lee shared and had dialogue with the participants.
  • June: Assistant Professor (Biblical Studies) Dr Xue Xiaxia’s paper “The Sufferings of Paul in Romans 9-11: Paul’s Vicarious Intercession and His Prophetic Identity” was published in Suffering in Paul: Perspectives and Implications (edited by Siu Fung Wu) 2019 pp. 29-50.
  • June 3: Dr Jean Lee was invited by Evangelical Free Church of China Kong Fok Church to lead a marketplace seminar, “Be happy in the workplace”.
  • June 8: Assistant Professor (Practical Studies) Rev Dr Michael Chu accepted the invitation from One Circle One Worship to be one of the speakers at their 10th The ONE Conference 2019 on the theme of “The LORD is one”.
  • June 15, 29, and July 6: Dr Pan Yi-Jung accepted the invitation of The Church of Christ in China - Quarry Bay Church to conduct a seminar series on “Transformation from the inside to live out your call”.
  • June 22-25: Dr Pan Yi-Jung joined The Foundation of Theological Education in South East Asia (FTESEA) in the Mandarin-speaking Women Theological Educators Conference, and presented a paper on “Teaching and Research as Women Theological Educators in Practical Studies”.
  • June 28: Eleanor and Wayne Chiu Associate Professor (Theological Studies) Dr Daniel Lee accepted the invitation to be one of the speakers at the Integral Mission Summer Program 2019 Talk Series hosted by the Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
  • July 1: Associate Professor (Biblical Studies) Dr Joyce Sun was invited by Hong Kong Evangelical Yan Kei Church to speak at their seminar on the Book of Revelation.
  • July 4: Dr Jean Lee accepted the invitation of the Graduates Christian Fellowship of Hong Kong to speak at their Marketplace Ministry Forum.
  • July 6: Dr Joyce Sun was invited by Church Pianist Training Centre to speak at their 2019 Spring of Life Worship Meeting on the topic of “Worship in the First Epistle of Peter, Second Epistle of Peter, and the Epistle of Jude”.
  • July 9: Dr Bernard Wong attended the 14th Youth Mission Conference hosted by the Taiwan Campus Evangelical Fellowship, and shared on the topic, “Mission and Political Involvement of Christians”.
  • July 14: Dr Bernard Wong accepted the invitation of The Church of Christ in China - Yaumati Kei To Church to speak at their book study group about relationship in our faith.
  • July 27: Dr Pan Yi-Jung was invited by the Far East Broadcasting Company to conduct a seminar on spirituality at a retreat for mainland students of its Liangyou Theological Seminary.
  • July 31: Professor (Biblical Studies) Dr Kasper Wong retired after 30 years of teaching and ministry at CGST. We are deeply grateful to him for his faithful service. Assistant Professor (Counseling Studies) Dr Jane Mann also retired and was appointed as Visiting Professor effective August 1.
  • August 1: We welcomed three new members joining our Faculty Team–Mr Edmond Lam as Associate Professor (Counseling Studies), Dr So Mo-Yu as Assistant Professor (Practical Studies), and Dr Kelvin Yu as Assistant Professor (Biblical Studies). Dr Kelvin Yu will continue to serve as Director of Theological Education by Extension.
  • August 1: Heavenly Blessings Associate Professor (Theological Studies) Rev Dr Kin-yip Louie was promoted to the rank of full professor. Assistant Professor (Practical Studies) Ms Wance Kwan and Assistant Professor (Theological Studies) Rev Dr Song Jun were promoted to Associate Professors.
  • August 8-12: Rev Dr Kin-yip Louie attended the 2019 World Reformed Fellowship General Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • August 9-11: Rev Dr Song Jun was invited by Fort Bend Community Church, Houston TX, to preach at the revival seminars and Sunday worship service.
  • August 12-16: Associate Dean and Henry Co See Cho Associate Professor (Biblical Studies) Dr Simon Cheung, Dr Joyce Sun and Ms Wance Kwan attended the 2019 Triennial General Assembly hosted by Asia Theological Association in Singapore.
  • August to January: Dr Jean Lee is on leave for research writing. Associate Dean Dr Simon Cheung will serve as the Acting Dean.

 

Prayer Requests

  1. Pray for our new s tudents. May God strengthen their hearts for ministry, and help them ready to be equipped through vigorous divinity trainings starting in September.
  2. Pray for our new school year. May God lead our School’s ministries through His grace and faithfulness, to serve believers in local and overseas through theological education, and to equip them to serve God. Pray for our faculty, that God will give them extra strength and wisdom in their teaching work.
  3. Pray for Hong Kong at this critical time. May God help us to be determined to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and grant us the gifts of wisdom and discernment that together we may find a way ahead to live in peace as fellow citizens.
