The President Office

  • December 2018: Vice President Luke Cheung coauthored with Dr Andrew B. Spurgeon a new book James: A Pastoral and Contextual Commentary was published by Langham Global Library.
  • February 22, 2019: Vice President Cheung was invited by Worldwide Bible Society to speak at their public seminar on the view of ghosts and gods in the New Testament.

 

Faculty Engagements

  • November 2018: Dr Raymond Au was appointed Carson & Virginia Mok Professor (Counselling studies).
  • November 2018: Dr Simon Cheung’s new book Psalms 21-41: Prayers of Earthly Pilgrims was published by Ming Dao Press Hong Kong.
  • November 2018: Dr Xue Xiaxia published an article “Underground Seminaries Face Challenges in China” in Didaktikos (Nov 2018), 9-12.
  • November 17-20, 2018: Dr Pan Yi -Jung accepted the invitation of the Editorial Board of Spiritus: A Journal of Christian Spirituality to attend the Conference and to present a paper entitled “A Methodological Attempt to Integrate Practical Theology with Urban Spirituality in Chinese Context” at the International Relations Committee of The Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality in Denver, the US.
  • November 26-27, 2018: Dr Hong Liang spoke on law and religion: research history and current issues at a seminar at China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing on the 26th. On the 27th, he also spoke at a seminar at Tsinghua University on the topic of Karl Barth and Hannah Arendt on Evil and Covenant.
  • November 27 & 30, 2018: Dr Bernard Wong shared his book Communio: A Biblical Reflection on Relationship and Community (in Chinese) at the Book Club hosted by Evangelical Reading Room.
  • November 30 -December 2, 2018: Dr Raymond Au was invited by Brotherly Love Swatow Baptist Church to speak at their 25th Anniversary Revival Meetings.
  • December 2018: Dr Pan Yi-Jung published an article in Chinese “Mystical Experience from Spirituality and Sex” in Hill Road Issue 42 (December 2018), Hong Kong: Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr Joyce Sun also published an ar ticle in Chinese “New Testament Teachings on Divorce and Remarriage: A Reflection on Contemporary Application and Improvisation” in Hill Road Issue 42 (December 2018). Hong Kong: Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary.
  • December 2, 2018: Ms May Yip accepted the invitation by Operation Mobilisation (OM) to speak at the reading feedback session of their worship and mission as well as book launch meeting.
  • December 5 -7, 2018: Dr Bernard Wong attended the organizing committee meeting of Christian Forum for Reconciliation in Northeast Asia in Tokyo.
  • December 8, 2018: Rev Dr Song Jun was invited to attend The 9th International Young Scholars’ Symposium on Christianity and Chinese Society and Culture 2018. Dr Song also chaired at the 8th session of the Symposium.
  • December 9, 2018: Dr Pan Yi-Jung accepted the invitation of North Point Alliance Church to lead a leadership seminar on the spiritual disciplines of spiritual leaders.
  • December 12-16, 2018: Dr Hong Liang spoke at the Theology of Hope seminar series at Minzu University of China in Beijing.
  • December 14, 2018: Dr Jean Lee, together with Marketplace Alumni Anita Lee, Samuel Leung, William To, and Fanny Ko, were invited by Yuen Kei Alliance Church to share and dialogue with brothers and sisters at their course on the journey of faith walker in the marketplace.
  • December 19, 2018: Rev Dr Song Jun accepted the invitation of Christian Communications Ltd to speak at their ministry symposium. Dr Song shared about the situation of churches in China and the coping strategy.
  • January 8, 2019: Dr Pan Yi-Jung was invited by Breakthrough Ltd to lead a seminar on healing and transformation.
  • January 12, 2019: Rev Dr Song Jun accepted the invitation of the Society for the Study of History of Christianity in China to give a response for the seminar on Martyrs under the gun: Red Army and Church in China.
  • January 18, 2019: Rev Timothy Au attended The 10th Hospital Pastoral Day for Seminary Students organized by the Association of Hong Kong Hospital Christian Chaplaincy Ministry.
  • January 22 & 29, 2019: Dr Simon Cheung was invited by Tai Po Baptist Church to give lectures on the Book of Lamentations at their evening course.
  • January 27, 2019: Rev Dr Kin-Yip Louie accepted the invitation of The Mission Covenant Church Kin Lok Church to speak on Reformation.
  • February 22, 2019: Rev Dr Song Jun was invited by Hong Kong Theological Education Association to speak at their Annual General Meeting at CGST. “To pray, to seek, and to walk together – thoughts of how Hong Kong seminaries help Mainland theological education endure the winter”.
  • February 27-March 1, 2019: Dr Pan Yi-Jung and Rev Dr Michael Chu accepted the invitation of the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary to be the external examiners of their first Doctor of Ministry doctoral thesis outline and integrated examination. On the 1st, Dr Pan was invited to speak at the public seminar on Spirituality and Art.
  • February 27, 2019: Dr Jane Mann was invited by Breakthrough Ltd to lead a workshop “On Being a Supervisor” for their staff members.
  • Dr Xue Xiaxia is on leave for research writing from February to July 2019, during which she accepted the invitation of Fuller Theological Seminary to be a Visiting Scholar at Fuller.

 

Theological Training Programs (Putonghua)

  • January 7-18: Four courses were offered in this two-week term. President Stephen Lee lectured on “Old Testament Theology”; Dr Wing-yan Chan Mok and Ms May Yip taught “The Church in Mission”; Dr Xue Xiaxia lectured on “Paul’s Letter to the Romans”; Dr Wing-yan Chan Mok also taught “Integral Mission”.

 

Prayer Requests

  1. We thank God for providing the School's financial needs in the past year, through churches, brothers and sisters' loving support. Our 2019 budget is US$ 7,300,000. We pray that God will strengthen our faith and supply us abundantly for this year.
  2. Pray for the new student recruitment in the coming school year, that God will guide the young generation of Christians responding to His calling, and ready to be equipped through vigorous divinity trainings.
  3. Pray that through the 2019 Apr-Jun TEE programs and 'Word of Life' Bible Study classes, students may be richly blessed by His grace.
