The President Office

• June 6: Vice President Luke Cheung attended the 65th Anniversary cum new chapel dedication thanksgiving service of Nanjing Union Theological Seminary in Nanjing. A symposium on “Theological Education and Sinicized Christianity” was also held at the same time, during which Dr Cheung presented a paper “Sinicization from the perspective of Early Christian Development”.
• June 10: President Emeritus Carver Yu preached at the CGST 2017 North America Revival Seminar in Chinese Baptist Church in Houston, US. The revival seminar was live broadcasted and record broadcasted to 26 churches in 17 cities in Canada and the US.

Faculty Engagements

• May 26: Dr Hong Liang received The Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise 2017 at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Dr Hong took part in the colloquium organized for the ten award winners, and presented a paper entitled “Karl Barth and Hannah Arendt on Evil.”
• May 27: Associate Dean Dr Bernard Wong preached at The One Conference hosted by One Circle One Worship.
• May 27: Dr Raymond Au was invited by Family Inclusion Network to speak at one of the sessions of the Christian Sexual Ethics Summit 2017.
• May 29-June 3: Dr Bernard Wong participated in the Christian Forum for Reconciliation in Northeast Asia in Jeju, Korea, sponsored by Duke Divinity School Center for Reconciliation. Dr Wong was one of the Organizing Committee members of the Forum, and he preached a sermon on “Jesus Christ, Our Suffering Reconciler.”
• June 4: Dr Hong was invited by Chinese Christian Fellowship in Heidelberg to speak at their seminar series. “Faith and Theology” was the theme of the seminar series.
• June 4: Dr Sarah Shea spoke at a seminar on hospitality organized by Hong Kong Evangelical Yan Ying Church.

• June 7: Dr Jean Lee was invited by Christian Communications Ltd to share a topic on marketplace mission with their staff members.
• June 7: Dr Pan Ji-Yung was invited by Lok Fu and Kowloon City Christian Chaplaincy to lead a seminar on spirituality.
• June 8-July 13: Dr Shea was the lecturer of a course on spiritual formation for mentallychallenged organized by The Church of Christ in China Mongkok Church.
• June 11: Dr Pan was invited by Chai Wan Baptist Church to speak at a seminar on Pilgrimage of Metropolitan Spirituality.
• June 13: Dr Pan was invited by Evangelical Free Church of China Kong Fok Church to lead a women devotional day camp.
• June 15: Dr Pan was invited to conduct a seminar and workshop on pre-martial counselling coorganized by Christian Communications Ltd, Evangelical Free Church of China Ling Chuen Church, and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service.
• June 23: Rev Timothy Au was invited by The Society for Truth and Light to speak at their annual conference of the Centre for Life and Ethics Studies. Rev Au spoke about parents practicing faith with their children together.
• June 24: Dr Shea was the speaker for the retreat day hosted by The Church of Christ in China Kei Shun Church Of Love.
• June 27: Dr Lee was invited by Hong Kong Christian Service to share with their management team on the topic of hope, justice and communion in the Hong Kong economy and market.
• June 28-29: Dr Pan was invited to attended the International Conference “Pray without Ceasing: Perspectives in Spirituality Studies” cohosted by the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality and the Center for the Academic Study of Christian Spirituality, University of Zurich, in Kappel, Switzerland. Dr Pan presented a paper entitled “Contemplation and Social Engagement in Post-Umbrella Hong Kong.”
• May: Honorary Chaplain Rev Philip Yeung’s book in Chinese Answering His Call was published by Christian Communications Limited.

Theological Training Programs (Putonghua)

• We welcomed around 100 students from Mainland China to study at the two-week summer term between July 10 and 22. Four courses were offered: “Church in History (1)” by Dr Hong Liang; “Exodus” by Dr Paul Lai; “Pastoral Counselling and Care” by Dr Pan Yi-Jung; “Bible Study & Hermeneutics” by Dr Xue Xiaxia.

Prayer Requests

1. Pray for Rev Dr Stephen Lee. May God cover him with grace and His healing hands be upon him.
2. Pray for our new students. May God strengthen their hearts for ministry, and help them focus on preparing for their study starting in September.
3. Pray for our new school year. May God lead our School’s ministries through His grace and faithfulness, to serve believers in local and overseas through theological education, and to equip them to serve God. Pray for our faculty, that God will give them extra strength and wisdom in their teaching work.
